SAN JUAN, PR – October 6, 2014 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – La Salita Café has just launched a Kickstarter Campaign to fund the opening of this artistic den to help answer the question “Where have Puerto Rico’s culture and arts gone?”

“The Island’s local talent is not receiving enough support or opportunities for exposure. They need our help and support and we hope to offer a solution through La Salita Café”

Jessica Muñoz-Vuillet has been around the world and back; from the streets of The South Bronx to the rolling countryside of Switzerland, she has found herself back in her native home, the glorious greenery and tropical vibe of Puerto Rico, where she works tirelessly to open up La Salita Café.

This den of artistic inspiration is a space where artists, musicians, filmmakers and poets can come together to empower one another and promote their one of a kind talents. The goal when Jessica founded the artist’s haven was to do more than just promote independent creativity, but to do it in a way that was socially conscious and eco-friendly. The café itself will be an amalgam of environment saving practices that utilize sustainable resources to keep the doors of La Salita Café open and the community free from environmental exploitation. With a Poetry Slam Series, the café seeks to leave a small footprint but a huge, visceral impact.

For Jessica, and for many of the performers whom are waiting to grace the stage at La Salita Café, the aim is also to reclaim Puerto Rican culture through the revival of artistic techniques, namely folk music, like Bomba y Plena and celebrating ‘la verdadera cultura Boricua’ – the essence of everything it is to be proudly Puerto Rican!

Jessica is extremely passionate about the cause and is fueled by her determination to bring back the music and cultural traditions that Puerto Ricans are accustomed to. She said, “The Island’s local talent is not receiving enough support or opportunities for exposure. They need our help and support and we hope to offer a solution through La Salita Café.” She further added, “We care about our community, the health of our environment and preserving our culture.”

While ensuring cultural preservation and revival of traditional music is important to Jessica, providing tasty, healthy quality food and affordable entertainment at the café to the public is also paramount on her list.

If you are as inspired as Jessica and the artists that need a place to call their own, we encourage you to visit La Salita Café’s Kickstarter campaign and see what you can do to help artists all over Puerto Rico express the height of their creativity in a safe, independent space: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1595167650/la-salita-cafe-empowering-local-artists.
