Hispanicize, Latino Filmmakers Network and SAG-AFTRA partner for celebration of Latino Film Talent at the Sundance Film Festival
MIAMI, FL – January 18, 2017 – (HISPANICIZE WIRE) – A new entertainment industry alliance aims to help Latino talent grow their careers. Hispanicize, creators of the nation’s largest gathering for Latino trendsetters and media entrepreneurs, in partnership with the Latino Filmmakers Network are coming to the Sundance Film Festival to present the panel discussion, Latino Horizons: Sustaining Your Career After the Festivals. Despite the contributions and history of the Latino community in the United States, there is still a lack of Latino representation and stories in Hollywood.
Presented by SAG-AFTRA and sponsored by MIB Insurance Services and Cafe Machu Picchu, the panel discussion accompanied by a networking mixer, will spotlight Latino talent featured at the festival. The event, which counts on the participation of filmmakers, industry executives, agents and the entertainment community, will take place on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 3 P.M. in Park City, Utah during the festival at the Power & Industry-Indie Lounge on Main St.
“Hispanicize is excited to produce this forum and mixer celebrating Latino filmmakers and talent at this years’ Sundance,” said Calixto Chinchilla, Hispanicize Director of Filmed Entertainment. “After our packed and well-received event last year, it was immediately clear we had to return. We’re excited to renew our collaboration with the Latino Filmmakers Network in growing this event with the support of presenter SAG-AFTRA, MIB Insurance Services and Cafe Machu Picchu.”
“Our growing presence in this signature initiative created by Maylen Calienes is all about bringing attention to under-represented Latinos in the film industry,” said Manny Ruiz, founder of the Hispanicize platforms that include the annual Hispanicize event (April 3-6 in Miami), DiMe Media, the Hispanic PR Blog and Hispanicize Wire. “Through our own event, which is going on six years and other initiatives like this, Hispanicize has consistently demonstrated its commitment to showcasing the talents and evolution of Latino filmmakers everywhere.”
“We are excited to expand our relationship with Hispanicize, and proud of our continued support of the Latino Filmmakers Network at Sundance,” said SAG-AFTRA President Gabrielle Carteris. “Part of SAG-AFTRA’s mission is to foster equality of opportunity for all performers in the entertainment industry, so no matter where you come from, what language you speak or how you identify, you have a fair shot at an employment opportunity.”
Latino Filmmakers Network, whose mission is to expand the role of Hispanics in the industry by providing venues for them at the world’s most prominent film festivals and in Los Angeles, will celebrate Latino filmmakers being recognized at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival. These talented individuals will participate in a conversation, encouraging the inclusion of Latinos whose films have been selected by the festival and creating a nucleus of continuing support, community, education and knowledge.
“The success of our event in the last two years’ was proof that what we’re doing is in demand and very important to Latino creators and talent,” said Maylen Calienes, founder of Latino Filmmakers. “With Hispanicize’s partnership we are once again in a strong position to host a networker that will significantly amplify Latinos presence at such a significant world gathering.”
